One of the purposes of this web site is to help people improve their game. Let's face it, while none of us are going to win every game, nobody wants to lose every game either. So we are a starting a thread to discuss various ways to help people becme better chess players. Starting with the obvious, improving your tactical vision is a great place to start! Does anybody have any ideas on this?

I agree this is VERY important......and at EVERY level this can be improved........for people just starting out in chess it is a good idea to study the right idea behind simple mating concepts.....this will help to show how pieces work together.......

as you improve move up to harder positons involving combinations to win material.....

as you improve you also need to try and understand combinations that happen in openings as this will help you to win some games quickly and also avoid falling into these traps yourself

as you get even better you will find that combinations exist that do not checkmate or win material but still damage the opponets position enough to create a weakness that is enough to win with (i.e. weak squares or entry points)

the difference between players and what makes one player better then another is just experience (or tactical/positional vision)

the better you get the smaller the advantage you will need to win a game......
